Day 1 – Welcome to Lapland!

Upon arrival at Kittilä airport, meet & greet by your local English speaking guide.

No need to seek out nature, it is all around you, just step out from the plane.

A real surprise to start your Lapland adventure: A snowmobile safari straight from Kittilä airport to the Snow Village!

Change into safari thermal outfits in the airport premises and proceed to the snowmobiles. After receiving snowmobile driving instructions you will start your Lapland adventure with 2 persons per snowmobile, taking turns in driving. Drive through snow covered forests to the impressive Lainio Snow Village.

Your luggage is transported separately directly to Lainio.

Duration 2-3hrs.  Driving distance approx 35-40km.

At the Snow Village you will be met by spectacular snow and ice sculptures as you make your way through the corridors of the large snow building to your igloo.

Relax your muscles in the sauna before dinner which is served in the exotic Ice Restaurant.  The entire restaurant is made of snow and ice – even the tables and chairs!

OPTIONAL:  Lappish Welcome Ceremony (approx. 30mins)

Crossing the Arctic Circle is an exotic experience in any season.
The welcome ceremony of crossing the Arctic Circlewill be performed by a reindeer herder in a Kota, lean to or Lapp camp.  You will experience an old but cheerful Lappish ceremony, which helps your stay at the Arctic Circle. Everyone will receive a reindeer horn mark on their forehead and as a proof of the ceremony you will receive an Arctic Circle Certificate with your name on it.

Day 2 – A Lappish Adventure – Snowmobile and Reindeer Safari

Visit to a reindeer farm is a unique experience to get to know the Sami culture in Lapland

After breakfast meet your local guide.  Dressed in the thermal safari clothing you will head to your snowmobiles and drive through breathtaking snowy scenery.  The snowmobile route takes you across lakes and through forests until we are greeted by the most famous Lappish animal – the Reindeer.

It’s time to change transportation, for a memorable 1,5km ride through the forest to a nearby lake in a reindeer pulled sledge.  At the lake it’s time to try the traditional Lappish art of Ice fishing and enjoy a delicious outdoor lunch of salmon soup in the wilderness.  After lunch it’s time to go back to the snowmobiles by reindeer before snowmobiling back to Levi.

Duration approx 5 – 6 hours.  Driving distance 65-70km

Your luggage will be transported separately by car to you hotel.

The hotel has 202 rooms in three buildings – some of which with a private sauna.  The main sauna department features two saunas and a Jacuzzi bath. The hotel also has a private restaurant Kiisa and the café/lobby bar Coffee House as well as good conference facilities for small groups.

This evening  dinner is served in SAAMEN KAMMI

The underground restaurant Saamen Kammi offers a cosy and traditional atmosphere.  Local Lappish delicacies are served in the original way by the open fire.  During dessert, the host; dressed in traditional Lapp dress will entertain you in the age old way with Lapp songs (Joiku) and tales of Lapland.  The restaurant is within walking distance of all the hotels in Levi.

Day 3 – Thrills on Wheels

After breakfast meet your local guide at the hotel lobby.  Coach transfer of approximately 10 minutes to the Levi Action Park.  Upon arrival the group will be divided into smaller teams and then it is time for some action.  The first task is to light the Olympic fire and take the Olympic oath and then everyone will be given a briefing of the forthcoming activities before the groups rotate from station to station experiencing speed and thrills along the way.

The activities include an ice karting race, quad bike skill test, a timed lap in a funny car; where turning the wheel left will make the car go right, and turning right will make you go left, a tyre changing challenge and snowmobile skill test.

Warm juice will be available throughout the program.  During the prize giving ceremony the winning team will be awarded with a small prize according to Lappish customs before returning to Levi by coach.

Day 4 – Farewells to Lapland!

Breakfast buffet and freetime for optionals.

Check out and guided coach transfer to Kittilä airport.

OPTIONAL DEPARTURE DAY PROGRAMMES:

SNOW SHOE TRIP 2 h

Try a traditional Arctic form of transport!  (This excursion is suitable for children of 12 or over.)
Join us on a snowshoe excursion in the snowy nature.  After receiving thermal clothing and snowshoes we will head to the Levi nature. Along the way, your guide will tell stories of the life and people of Lapland. During the trip, enjoy a well-earned drink before returning to the Safari Club.

CROSS COUNTRY SKI TRIP 2 h

One of Finland’s most popular activities is cross country skiing.  Levi has a very large network of cross country tracks, and our guides will take you out on a suitable route nearby, and teach you the basics of Cross Country Skiing.  Once you have mastered the basic technique you will surely enjoy the peaceful scenery as you glide across the snow on skis!  Along the way, your guide will give you hints and tips to improve your technique and share stories of life in Lapland.  During the trip, enjoy a well-earned drink before returning to the Safari Club.

ICE FISHING ON FOOT 2 h

Meet your guides at the hotel lobby to pick up thermal clothing and fishing equipment before taking a short walk to Levi’s own local lake.
At the lake you can break the ice and fish “Arctic Style” through a hole in the ice!  While you fish there is time to admire the beautiful surrounding scenery and enjoy a cup of hot juice and cookies.
After your fishing experience, and hopefully with a good catch it’s time to head back on foot to Levi.

All programs are operated weather permitting. All items and services are subject to availability at the time of receiving your request. We reserve the right to change the rates in the event of increase of taxes, fuel costs or similar beyond our control.

INSURANCE

All the snowmobiles and forest scooters are insured as required by the Finnish Traffic Insurance Act. This insurance covers medical care for injuries to the driver and the passenger arising from accidents. Personal injuries and damages to other parties while driving a snowmobile or forest scooter are fully covered according to the Finnish Traffic Insurance Act. Lapland Safaris is not liable in general for personal injuries or material damage arising from accidents during other games and activities such as husky sleigh safaris, reindeer safaris or other excursions in which snowmobiles or quad bikes are not involved. Personal travel insurance is therefore highly recommended.

SELF LIABILITY

Safari participants are held liable for damages caused to snowmobiles or forest scooters. Each vehicle driver must put down a damage deposit on the spot upon their arrival, by cash or credit card, if other arrangements have not been made in advance. The amount of the deposit is EUR 980,- for cars, snowmobiles and forest scooters and EUR 841,- for jeeps. The customer must notify Lapland Safaris in advance about who (each participant individually or the orderer or company) is going to be held responsible for self liability. The self liability is mentioned during the snowmobile driving lesson before safari.

DRIVING TERMS

The driver of a snowmobile must be 18 years old with a valid driving licence, forest scooter driver has to be at least 18 years old with a valid driving license. Children under 2 years old are free of charge and children under 15 years old get a discount and they are then allowed to sit on a sledge pulled by a snowmobile. Children under 15 years old are seated in a sledge pulled by snowmobile and are given helmets.

Driving a snowmobile or forest scooter under the influence of alcohol or any narcotic products is prohibited by Finnish law. As the responsible safari organizers, we reserve the right to change the routing and duration of the excursions if necessary, according to the prevailing weather and snow conditions, or if deemed advisable for the sake of safety and the comfort of the participants. We also reserve the right to discontinue the safari if a participant is seen as a potential danger to him/herself or to others, or is in poor health.

MEALS & BEVERAGES

All lunches in the program include 2 courses, bread & spread, and as beverages water, berry juice and coffee/tea. All dinners in the program include 3 courses, bread & spread, and as beverages water and coffee/tea.

TRANSFERS

Transfers are organized by private coach. One coach has capacity for maximum of 49 persons in the group. When more than 49 persons in the group transfer costs need to be revised accordingly: 50 – 98 pax à 2 coaches and double rate for transfer; 99 – 147 pax à 3 coaches and triple rate for transfer; etc.
